This week will be unstable for much of Europe with rain or scattered showers which will be heavy at times, falling as snow over the Alps, the northern Balkans and northeastern Europe. The unstable weather will be accompanied by a significant temperature drop especially across northeastern Europe where the maximum temperature will not exceed 0°C in many places.
Heavy rain or showers, locally heavy in western Europe: A strong jet stream will travel arctic air masses towards Europe bringing continuously low pressure systems which will dominate over the next few days leading to rain or scattered showers which locally will be heavy across the western Europe, especially over the British Isles, France, the Low Countries, Iberia and Italy. Especially, Friday to Sunday heavy showers or scattered thunderstorms are expected across Italy and the Balkans which could possibly cause flash flooding.
Snow and temperatures not above 0°C: Another low pressure system across northeastern Europe will bring wintry showers or snow over Ukraine, Belarus and locally over high ground in the Balkans. Friday to Sunday snow is possible to fall over the sea level across Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and Romania. Temperature will gradually fall over the next few days with temperatures not exceeding over 0°C across the Baltic states, Belarus, much of Poland and Ukraine. For example, in Kyiv temperatures will range from -6°C to -1°C, in Minsk -8°C to -3°C, in Berlin -3°C to -1°C (during the weekend), in Milan 5°C to 11°C (during the weekend), while in Madrid will also feel the cold with temperatures 5 to 12°C (during the weekend). Patchy frost is possible during these low temperatures across northeastern Europe.
