Super Typhoon Ragasa over the Philippine Sea becomes the strongest storm for 2025

Ragasa, known locally as Nando, was intensified into a super typhoon today on September 21, 2025 east of Cagayan, Philippines. The Super Typhoon between today and tomorrow will be at its maximum strength with sustained winds of 180-200 km/h, gusts up to 270-300 km/h and sea waves reaching 12-14m across the Philippine’s Sea, becoming the strongest storm for 2025.

The highly favorable conditions with sea surface temperatures of 29-30°C, low wind shear, and strong outflow are supporting the intensification. The weather conditions will be severe during today and tomorrow with high alert warnings, as the typhoon is moving towards northwest, over Luzon and Taiwan. The severe wind, high waves and the intense rain is possible to bring floods and significant damages.

On Tuesday, Ragasa is possible that it will still be a super Typhoon, with a small wind reduction, moving towards the southern coast of China (Hong Kong) with a high risk of floods and significant damages. From Wednesday Ragasa will start downgraded to a very strong typhoon near Hainan and on Thursday to a severe tropical storm as it enters the northern coast of Vietnam (Hanoi). After Ragasa hits the land it will lose its strength becoming a remnant low system.
