An usual severe heatwave has spreaded the last few days across Europe. A high pressure system over the western Mediterranean Sea headed northeastwards reaching even the southern parts of Scandinavia, bringing above normal temperatures. The high pressure system today is centered across the central Mediterranean Sea bringing unusually high temperatures the last few days across France, the Alps, Italy, central Europe and the Balkans.

Temperatures 8-10°C above normal: France reached 40C or more the last few days, but a low pressure system across the southwestern parts of the country has already started to bring a drop in temperature. Italy is already experiencing the heat wave as Sardegna is already reaching 40°C, while tomorrow a few cities of southern Italy and Sardinia will reach even more than 40°C locally. As the high pressure is heading east will bring extreme high temperatures also to the Balkans with Greece tomorrow reaching locally 37-39°C. On Thursday the severe heat wave will continue affecting southern Italy and Greece, bringing 38-42°C. As the high pressure bites also Germany, temperatures on Thursday will be above normal reaching 28-31°C. On Friday central Europe as well as Scandinavia will experience a temperature rise, reaching 26°C in Stockholm, will other cities in Sweden can reach even 27-29°C.

During the next few days the high pressure will keep bringing above normal temperatures across eastern Europe, on the other hand a “cold pool” over the eastern Atlantic Ocean will bring a temperature drop across the western Europe with maximum temperatures reaching even 15-17°C near the coast.
