The wildfires across Canada are still ongoing and continue bringing poor air quality across Canada and eastern America, as a result of a westerly wind. Between Tuesday 6/06 and Thursday 8/06 the air quality was really poor and NY city and the East Coast was under an orange fog. Today, though, the quality has improved with the citizents be able to respire better and do outdoors activities. The M2.5 levels are still though high and will continue to travel towards the east bringing poor air quality also to northern Europe.

Skies were similarly tinged due to wildfires in the summer of 2020. The M2.5 levels in New York City were extremely high this week with a few scientists claiming that they were one of the highest in the last two decades. Officials had warned New Yorkers and residents of the other eastern states to limit outdoor activities as much as possible during the next few days, due to poor air quality that could lead to serious respiratory and heart problems. Several schools in the northern East Coast states have canceled all outdoor activities through at least Thursday due to high concentrations of outdoor smoking, which could pose a health risk. Professional sports teams have postponed many games in cities affected by the smoke, including two Major League Baseball games scheduled in New York and Philadelphia. For the same reason, at least three racetracks on the East Coast have been closed. People started to wear masks again as a means of safety.

The wildfires are still active but are going to decrease during the next week as a low pressure system will bring rain. The westerly wind already had brought smoke to northwestern Europe and will continue to provide with new during the next days, but will not cause health problems as its concentration will be low with an everyday reduction.

Climate change has brought warmer and drier conditions across California and Canada, increasing the risk of wildfires and impacts due to smoke.
